Dr. Emily T. Westmoreland has relentlessly pursued veterinary medicine as a career since she got her first cat as a family pet, when she was just 5 years old. She grew up in Reidsville, NC and was a recipient of the Park Scholarship to NC State University. She graduated magna cum laude with a BS in biochemistry and minor in Animal Science in 2010, and entered NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine that same year. Graduating vet school in 2014, Dr. Westmoreland returned home to join a veterinary hospital in Eden, NC, but quickly felt like she could be doing more to address chronic pain in her patients. She completed a veterinary medical acupuncture course through the CuraCore Integrative Medicine & Education Center in Fort Collins, Colorado in early 2017, learning not only scientifically validated methods of acupuncture, but also techniques in laser therapy and medical massage. She joined Bel-Aire Veterinary Hospital shortly thereafter, and loves the friendly staff, progressive medicine, and learning from Dr. Packard.
In her spare time, Dr. Westmoreland enjoys volunteering for the Park Scholarships as well as within her local community. She enjoys organic gardening, spending time with her 2 dogs and 5 cats, as well as aquarium keeping. Dr. Westmoreland is passionate about all things veterinary medicine, but special interests include chronic pain management, feline medicine, geriatric medicine, and exploring scientifically validated “alternative” medical methods. She loves to talk to and educate clients, so feel free to ask her anything!
